Conbit was contracted by WorleyParsons, on behalf of Shell, to deliver engineering, project preparation, and offshore execution for the flare tip replacement at the Appomattox platform, located 80 miles southeast of the Louisiana coastline. The scope also included supporting other maintenance activities like rerouting the low-pressure flare line.
All engineering and preparatory work was completed onshore before mobilization. Offshore operations required careful planning due to the platform’s inclined boom. Two lifting approaches were considered, and a tugger line solution was selected to ensure safe and controlled load handling.

Conbit deployed its modular gantry system combined with main and tugger winches to transfer loads safely between the platform and boom. The setup enabled precise positioning of the flare tip and associated components while maintaining high safety and efficiency standards.
Mercury present on the platform posed an additional safety challenge, as it reacts with aluminum components. Conbit and the client developed a robust HSE strategy, including enhanced PPE, specialized operational procedures, and a mercury-free work zone on the top platform.
